DarK's Dapples

This was an adopt try for the percheron mare Dapples found here fav.me/d3c1e3q. It is a picture of Dapples relaxing in her new pasture as she starts her recovery from "stocking up" in the PMU lines. She is ours now from HARPG-Rescue

History: Bred every year since the age of 4. After giving birth she was separated from her foals and sent to stand continuously for 7 months in the pee lines. During this time Dapples developed a condition known as “stocking up” and could no longer stand on her own. This is associated with stall confinement, lack of exercise and overfeeding, specifically grain. Since Dapples does not do well in stalls and bandaging and therapy would be too time consuming and costly she was sent to slaughter.
Special Needs: A regime of Bute (an anti-inflammatory drug that is good for reducing swelling) and cold water therapy. Since she has been at Timberlea she is able to stand but still needs super vision. She may be stalled again but will need a large box to move around or an adjoining paddock or run. Regular exercise will prevent her from stocking up again.
Temperament: Sweet yet timid. Loves to roll and sleep in her pasture.



Diagnosis: Vet confirms ovarian granulosa-theca cell tumors reside in the mare's left ovary. Depressed and shy but will become aggressive unless treatment is administered.
Treatment: Surgical removal of the effected ovary (50/50 Chance to be able to breed AFTER surgery). LOTS of time and TLC to work out mental problems. Vet check to diagnose treatment.
