Personality:  Zeus grew up with others having high expectations of him as nephew to the King and he found great pride in himself which grew to an almost impossible ego. His popularity with does with his dark good looks didn’t help his already inflated ego. He grew to think too much of himself and expected his reputation to always proceed him and would take offense when others did not immediately think the highest of him. This all created a selfish and egotistical young stag which many others could barely stand to be around let alone depend on. He was a decent soldier when he had a mind to and was a fabulous fighter when he kept at his training. He was a soldier that was always picked as a last resort because of his fickle nature when it came to following through with a task, as no one could ever predict if he would complete his assignment or not.

History:

Zeus was trained in the ways of the soldier ever since he was old enough to leave his mother’s side and showed promise as a young buck. Once he began maturing, he began to show signs of his unhealthy growing ego. His teachers tried to cure him of this, but their attempts to cure him did little good. When he had been at one time an ambitious young buck, he grew into an egotistical young stag who loved to prove himself to his fellow soldiers and the does he would woo during rut. In his first rut, he thought himself deeply smitten with a Blackwood doe which he had happened upon when out on patrol. He was with her through her eventual pregnancy but once the fawn colt was born, she disappeared without a trace and he found himself seeing all does in a more bitter light than he had before. No longer were they a glorious beautiful creature to him but merely a means to an end. He never told a soul about his Blackwood affair or the little colt that had been a result. He showed everyone the same Zeus they all knew but inside, he felt his heart break as he wanted to be a part of the little fawn colt’s life. But it looked like that would never happen now. He silently mourned the loss of his son and found he no longer cared about the mother. His heart froze over after the heartbreak as he found it the only way to go on after such an event. In the following summer when his son would have turned one year, his commanding officer and mentor told him his happy news that he had a new daughter born to his Princess Doe mate. He was also a good friend who was one of few who actually was able to put up with his ways and accept him for who he was.
Zeus hadn’t known how to respond to his friend’s happy news. The wound from his own son’s disappearance was old but this news made the ice in his heart crack in jealousy and sorrow. His friend had shared his joy with him at his little golden Princess. He would describe the golden Palomino fawn filly a shade of gold far darker than most found in Glenmore with a tenderness and a protectiveness in his eyes as he talked about his small daughter that Zeus found chipped at his heart further and he found himself looking forward to having a mate and fawns of his own. If he could ever get over his heartbreak over his son and if a doe would ever have him. He congratulated his old friend with best wishes and he was genuinely happy for the older stag and his new family. His old friend looked at him a while before asking him to come along and meet his small daughter Dusk. Zeus had hesitated, thinking seeing a new fawn would further crack the ice surrounding his heart to the still raw wounded heart beneath but then he had found his curiosity getting the better of him and accepted to come see the new little fawn.
When he first saw Dusk he found her so small and so new to the world. She looked up at him with large brown eyes that were sharp for one so young. He felt captivated by the little fawn and she seemed to be captivated by him as well. After visiting with them for a while, his officer took his mate aside for a short time, leaving Zeus with little Dusk. When they came back, his friend was telling him how he hoped that his daughter would be betrothed to the most honorable of stags, who could protect her with his life happily and give her strong offspring when that day came. Then he asked him if Zeus would be willing to honor him and his family by becoming Dusk’s betrothed. Zeus had been shocked and wondered at his old friend’s mind. He might not have been an egotistical jerk to him as he was to most other fawnlings but surely his friend did not truly believe Zeus was honorable enough to be graced with the honor of being betrothed to his precious little Princess Dusk. Zeus had tried to have his friend reconsider the betrothal; that surely another stag would make Dusk a far finer mate than he. His friend would not be persuaded however and insisted that Zeus was the right choice for Dusk. He saw things in Zeus that even Zeus couldn’t see and was adamant about him being the perfect stag for Dusk and Dusk might be the best thing for him when it was time for Zeus to claim her as his. His friend was so sure and told him that he looked forward to the day his tiny precious new daughter would have a mate who he already considered family and trusted with his life. Zeus had been deeply moved and unable to give any other reasons for his friend to reconsider what he thought was an ill choice for Dusk’s future mate. He was incredibly honored to accept the betrothal of Dusk although not without reservations. There was nothing to be done if his friend felt this way and Zeus didn’t have the heart to further refuse his friend.
After that he had looked at little Dusk and knew she would grow up to become a beautiful and striking doe. And one day, she would be his, his future mate one day and future mother to his young. That thought of having his own young that would never be taken from him made the ice in his heart melt just a little. He looked at her with new eyes and found some of his reservations melting with his heart.
As the weeks passed then months, his little Dusk grew and became a sunny and bubbling little doe fawn. He felt his heart further melting towards the little golden Princess despite his wishes against it. She seemed to enjoy spending time with him when he came to visit and he would even play with her when no one was looking save for Dusk’s parents. They were already sharing a bond that grew stronger and stronger every day. Then on one fateful day, he went out to patrol the borders of Glenmore which took him farther than he had been patrolling since his first visit with Dusk. He was gone for a couple months and became seperated from his fellow guards in a skirmish with Blackwood Raiders. He was wounded but eventually found his way back towards Glenmore. Opon his return, it was a quiet night. Too quiet. He came back to the near silence of the herd. Slowly he learned that a young Princess Doe Fawn had been stolen away without a trace. Does kept their fawns close and he hurriedly made his way to Dusk and her parents to see her mother laying down and silent while her father stood over her in somber silence. He felt his breath leave him and his heart felt the all too familiar touch of cold as he frantically searched the grass around them for his little Dusk. But she was nowhere. She was gone. Dusk had been the Princess doe fawn who had been stolen away. His heart threatening to break a second time in his still short life but he fought it and immediately began searching Glenmore and the surrounding territory for the next few weeks. He blamed himself for her abduction. He should have been there to keep an eye out for her. So he continued to search until he was ordered to abandon his searching. He was ordered to get back to his duties. It had been months now since her disappearance. Soon he began to seek out more and more work to keep himself from dwelling on his unworthiness to have been betrothed to Dusk. He lost himself in missions as he took every mission with a carelessness that brought him deep fear and respect from his fellow soldiers then they had before. His heart froze over its breaking yet again and it turned into rage and a one track mind to always finish his mission no matter the cost or who it hurt. Soon he took on a far more dangerous mission, infiltrate the Blackwood herd and keep his ear cocked for any suspicious activity. He received this mission shortly after Dusk had been kidnapped. He knew she was still out there somewhere, he could feel it. He was with the Blackwood herd for many years after infiltrating their ranks. He had fit in perfectly with his rough, rash and egotistical behavior and quickly found himself among the ranks of the Raiders. He found it easy to fit in as he explained his lack of Black magic that he was a mutt. He readily aided them in their raids when stags stole does from different herds but avoided the Glenmore Raids to protect his secret identity among the raiders of Blackwood. A couple stags he met were named Kira and Soma who seemed to also have problems of a sort with females in the past. They all had the similar feel. As the years passed, he found himself losing himself among the Blackwood herd and any reservations he may have once had fled as his time with them blurred together. He had passed the first couple years passing on the rut season, feeling Dusk’s kidnapping still too fresh. But eventually, he began participated during rut every year and if he had any fawns from his activities, he didn’t keep track as he might have at one time and he kept no harem as other stags did.
After six long years living as a Blackwood with the Blackwood herd, he got the shock that brought him barely back to his senses when a fellow Glenmore guard hunted him down to tell him that Dusk had returned to Glenmore, alive and healthy. After his initial shock at this news, he discovered that they had been trying to track him down for nearly the past year. Dusk had been back in Glenmore a year without him. After that, he left Blackwood without a backwards glance and returned to Glenmore immediately. It was about time he claimed his mate…..
